Overview: Master planning competition for a new university campus in Suzhou, China.
Design: Planned around existing waterways and a proposed major road crossroads, a green corridor was designed to allow students and visitors to move around the site through a traffic free landscaped corridor whilst vehicles were kept to the site edges. With 7 colleges, library, staff and student accommodation, faculty buildings for the arts and sciences, sports and research facilities the campus would provide teaching facilities for both international and local students. The design took influence from wu culture through the use of courtyards accessed of a central walkway, and a flowing reference to local silk production. The central island referenced the local vernacular through a grey slate clad continuous and flowing "ribbon" pitched roofs.
