ABOUT
Originally born in Leeds in the UK, I am a UK registered architect with 20 years practical experience and have been based in Shanghai since 2010.
After completing a degree in Architecture at the Leicester School of Architecture in the UK, I travelled through Australia and Japan before returning to the UK to complete my architectural training in 2002.
After working for several large practices in the UK, I was relocated to China in 2010 by Stephen George and Partners representing the practice internationally in Shanghai. Since this time, I have worked for both small and Large private practices in Shanghai on projects ranging from hospitality to retail, office, commercial and industrial.
I have experience in all areas of practice in both the UK and China, design lead, preparing fee proposals, client liaison, marketing and business development along with managing teams and the running and coordination of projects of various scales. This includes working on Project delivery from concept, detail and construction design through to contract management and on site quality supervision.
From 2017 until 2021 I worked for a large UK practice leading a large team on a commercial mixed use project in Xian from concept through to detailed design, covering Architecture, Interiors and Landscape for a large International developer. Since 2021 I have worked for a boutique practice, Daniel Statham Studio, on projects of varying size and scope.
During my time in China, I have developed my professional experience whilst also working closely with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo in the role of external examiner ( 2011-2016). Since completing the maximum allowed term as an External examiner, I have worked as an external reviewer for all academic years and have presented at a number of conferences in China on Sustainable design. I completed my LEED AP in 2021 and am also a member of the RIBA Shanghai Chapter committee.
